Can YOU Really Copy A PRO?

83

By Neil Ashworth

They Tell YOU It's Easy To Copy A Pro Marketer But What's The Truth?

Okay, so you want to know if it's really possible to make money on the internet with no knowledge, no previous experience and little to no financial investment?

Perhaps you've been reading a few reviews of the latest income opportunity and seen six or seven testimonials from top earners talking about their simple copy and paste system that almost anyone can plug into and start making money with inside the next 30 days....

Sound familiar?

Or maybe you've been searching online and landed on a website where some guy has shown you his dream lifestyle and thrown in a couple of screenshots of his "monthly" commission cheque to add a little spice and now you're wondering if all this is really possible and more to the point possible for you?

Is there really a way to plug into a system and replicate what the top 1% do? Is it possible to look at a complex marketing model and "carbon-copy" it the way you might copy a simple pencil drawing?

Okay...

Sit back and take in every word you are about to read slowly and carefully; it might just save you a lot of frustration and a bucket load of money...

Let me tell you about building a business on the internet.

Here's the thing...

There are lots of opinions, statements, testimonials and a fair number of complaints about companies who offer marketing systems that offer you a copy cat marketing tool kit or a way to follow the pro s that's supposed to be as easy to follow as A, B, C...

The truth is there's not a lot of evidence or unbiased information to help you make your mind up about many if not all of these marketing systems. Do these "programmes" really work and what is the real cost to follow the pros? Searching for a real review is like looking for a needle in a haystack!

I know, I tried to find the truth for almost two years and felt like I was banging my head against a brick wall at times.. and in 2011 it doesn't seem to be getting any easier.

This article will aim to answer the following questions and will allow you to make up your own mind about starting an internet based business..

  • How much money should I invest?
  • Is the company I'm researching legitimate?
  • What is a compensation plan?
  • What is an internet business?
  • Who are the top earners with these companies and will they teach me how to make money?
  • What will I be selling?
  • Is this really for me?

You want a real review?

Let's get started...

I was a member of a Top Tier Internet Based Business for almost two years so have a pretty good handle on what building a business online is all about. In fact, I was even featured as the "Member of The Month" with one particular internet based business model because of the results I was having and my success in using the system.

BUT!

Here's the thing...

I walked away from the company a short while back and in truth have never really looked back.

I'll explain why soon enough but first I want to explain something to you. It'll help you to understand a LOT about these systems and what this type of business and a few of the marketers who are involved are all about and more importantly how this whole thing works. Ready?

I want to start by telling you about a call I had a while back...stay with me, this part is important.

I had a call from a friend of mine, Jack, who lives on the coast of Florida. Jack had been getting emails from someone trying to sell him into one of these companies and wanted to know what I thought of the whole thing; after all...hadn't I joined the same thing a while back?

"So, you've been getting the emails?" I asked him "I guess you've either been hooked or over-cooked then?"

He laughed a little.. "Yeah, over-cooked is pretty accurate"

The line went quiet for a few seconds and then he asked me THE question...

"Is THIS for real or just another one of those internet scams Neil?" he said "The truth now, I'm a good friend remember AND I know where you live"

"Can You Really Copy A Pro Neil?"

What Jack said made me laugh a little but underneath I knew I had to tell my friend the truth about all this.

Here's what I said (or pretty close to it)

"Let's see...

I started looking at starting an online business almost three years ago as I had heard and read a lot about what money you could make if you were able to understand the internet and yet at the time, I really knew nothing about it at all...

I'd read a few articles and at the time was working my way through a couple of different marketing programmes, trying to figure out just how to make a few hundred dollars each month in my spare time from home.

Let me tell you...I wasn't looking to make a million dollars online or even to leave my job behind. I actually enjoyed my job at the time.

But I did need the extra income...don't we all?

I had turned to the internet to find a proven affiliate marketing system I could run in my own time and at my own pace from home. Affiliate marketing means you get paid for selling someone else's product. No hassle, no employees and no customers to deal with. Just a small cheque every time you sell something on behalf of the vendor. I liked the sound of affiliate marketing more than the other online business models I'd looked into.

I needed a Plan B.

Problem was I ended up trying Plan B, C, D and E in the process...

So, having struggled to understand what it took to make that extra $500 per month I finally turned back to Google one day and searched for a new internet based business.

You see...

I had heard a LOT of guys were making a LOT of money online and I wanted to find out just how they were doing it. If it was true. If it was legit. I had heard there were companies and "systems" out there that would teach me how to do what some of these guys were doing; marketing systems that would let me literally "carbon-copy" the success of these top earners.

But guess what...

All I found were sales pages, sales pitches and a fair amount of hype from people desperate to make a quick sale of whatever it was they were involved with at that time and trying to divert a little traffic and a few potential customers to their own "$100k affiliate system".

If this sounds familiar then perhaps this is what you need to hear...

I used the system I found for over a year and had some pretty good results in the process - at one point I was even chosen as "The Member of The Month" because of my results...

But...

I gotta tell you right out front this type of business may NOT be right for you.

It isn't for everyone.

As far as promises and probabilities go; there really aren't any...

You could make a LOT of money with one of these systems or...

...you might not make a single cent.

You could even lose the shirt off your back if you're not careful.

"So, you're telling me what?" Jack asked "Should I do it or not, I mean should I get started?"

"Here's what to do" I said "Go read an article I've written about "internet based business systems" and make your mind up from there"

But Jack wanted the answer there and then and he wanted me to provide it... "heck' can't you just tell me now... do I have to go read some damn article?"

And then I told him what I'm going to tell you now...

"Read the article in full. So that you can make up your own mind; no tricks, no gimmicks and no lies or false promises. This is as good as it gets when it comes to unbiased information about building an internet business"

Jack read the article...

And if you want to know, he decided NOT to join the company he was researching at that time.

Wondering why? read on...

Before you go any further here is the disclaimer;

I know exactly what people search for when researching certain companies and products online and I have written this article to provide those exact people with the information they need (That's YOU!) to make an informed decision about getting started with an internet business.

Take your time to read this entire article...it is my experience and my opinion and no more than that. It may offer you an insight into building your business with or without the company you are currently researching.

Starting A Business On The Internet

Is it for YOU?

There are many ways to earn an extra income from home from filling envelopes to baking cakes to sell at the local church but in recent years more and more people have turned to the internet as a way of starting a business.

Like all businesses, there are start up costs and other hurdles to overcome if you are going to be successful and the facts are that few (in fact very few) will succeed in their efforts to build a successful, sustainable and profitable internet business.

My experience has shown me that most people fail to understand fundamental truth about this whole topic and this is it... there is no such thing as an "internet business"

Let me explain...

Scam or Success| What's the Truth Behind Internet Business Models?

So, what exactly is an internet business and how does it work?

An internet business is in fact a misnomer (it doesn't really exist)...

But what does exist is and are various affiliate marketing models and other business opportunities that use the internet as a way to attract prospects and generate leads. In the same way I've written this article about internet marketing companies and copy cat business systems to find and target a reader who is looking for specific information on a certain topic or company, these systems are set up to target and attract traffic (website visitors) and some are built to provide their members or customers with the tools to do the same. The difference is that some "systems" will cost you a few hundred dollars to get started while others will ask you to invest thousands of dollars to use their tools and training. There is often very little to choose between the models themselves and there are no guarantees of success even when spending several thousand dollars to get started.

Before you ask...

Yes, you can do this on your own and build a business online without having to buy into a turn key system. But you should expect a steep learning curve and a much longer road to success if you are going to go through all the trial and error on your own and ignore the pull of a turn-key marketing system.

So...

The BIG question is which system should you chose and what should you expect from it?

Let's see..

Fact or Fiction - What Do You Need?

Before you look at what is out there in terms of costs, tools, training and income opportunity you should start by identifying what it is you are looking for and what you are prepared to invest to get to where you want to go.

  • Think about your current situation - is it what you want?
  • Look at your home and family life - are you content?
  • Examine your past and be honest with yourself - do you have the motivation to see things through?
  • Listen to those around you who know you well - do they believe you can do this?
  • Write down your goals - what do you want from life?
  • List your strengths - what is it that will make you succeed?
  • Examine your weaknesses - what is holding you back and how can you overcome this?

When you have taken the time to look first at your own self you can then start to look at what is out there that might help you to reach your goals.

So.. what are the costs?

The costs for setting up your business online vary from a few hundred to several thousand dollars and internet marketing systems are no different - some will cost you a few hundred dollars while others will be positioned as a top tier opportunity and will look for a much higher initial investment - tens of thousands of dollars in some cases.

The vast majority of these systems are what is known as an affiliate marketing programme - they pay you a commission for selling the system or programme to someone else. How they work is pretty simple...

You are offered a "package" of some sort - tools, training, support along with options to sell products or services attached to the system.

The majority of affiliate programmes are stand alone websites owned by individuals who offer "affiliates" a way of making money by sending traffic to their website - which in turn converts to paying customers - which in turn converts to a paid commission for the affiliate marketer. This is how a lot of internet marketers make the bulk of their money online - selling information, tools and/or resources to other people searching the world wide web.

A small number of affiliate programmes are based around "turn-key systems" perhaps like the one you are researching and these offer tools, training and support and some you can get going with for a few hundred dollars while others will have options for you to look at that will cost tens of thousands of dollars to get into.

Are the higher ticket items and programmes any better you might ask?

In some ways they can be...

They have more financial backing (because their members pay more to use their system) so they can offer events, incentives and bonuses to their top earning affiliates that make some of the smaller programmes look pretty pathetic.

But in other ways not...

There is a certain culture that exists within different communities and opportunities and from my experience where you find the potential to earn hundreds of thousands of dollars in commissions in a very short time (based on a large commission from an expensive product or programme), you also find greed and at times a lack of compassion that allows and some would say encourages marketers to make whatever money they can selling a system to others whether the system is right for them or not.

Money talks in some of these programmes and the internet offers you little real protection against scams and tricksters.

What this means for you, if you have the skills in place and are prepared to work with this kind of system is that high commissions (payments for selling the system to others) can be achieved.

Will this happen for you?

That's difficult to say. The internet is dominated by a tiny number of marketers who are making ALL the money online - they are highly skilled, understand the web inside out and can dominate paid and free traffic on search engines like Yahoo, Google and BING in a way you may never understand. To break into this massively competitive arena the reality is that you will need to develop a level of knowledge way beyond 99.9% of people who come online in search of an income. Expect a long and at times frustrating journey if you decide to go down this road. Be prepared to lose money (and sometimes lots of it) while you are learning what works and what doesn't and don't expect anything from anyone - the internet marketing niche is massively competitive and those who succeed are (for the most part) lone sharks who hunt on their own and take what they can in terms of commissions when and where they can.

Is it possible to copy a pro internet marketer and plug into his or her turn-key system and make a lot of money quickly selling one of these high ticket information products?

The truth: It's not impossible.

Let's face it... if you are prepared to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars to join one of these programmes it's likely someone else will, right?

But could you look your self in the mirror knowing you had just taken $10,000 from a single parent desperate to spend more time at home with her children and struggling to get out of the rat race.

I know I couldn't...

In case you're wondering why my friend decided to walk away from the company he was researching here's what he told me...

"I just don't think it's for me. If it's just a marketing system that teaches you how to do all this and I have to pay a lot to learn this stuff even before I get paid for selling stuff, then I don't think it's for me Neil... "

My friend chose to walk away and a few weeks later I joined him...

Greetings Neil.

I have read this whole article and numerous others very thoroughly. I have found your article the most honest and the most informative. I have a number of people who have gone through a lot of different MLM systems. Some have become very disillusioned and others are continually jumping from one opportunity to another. One of the biggest reasons is that most of them never get proper, realistic training. I am very impressed with the good service you are providing. Keep it up.

Leslie,

Thank you for your comments.

Right now, focus on finding an income either part time or full time to bring some funds in which will help you to get started when the time is right for you.

Create a plan A before starting to build Plan B.

The pressures of unemployment can drain your energy levels and prevent you from taking action consistently when trying to market your own business.

When you are on more solid ground, set goals for yourself, put the right processes in place to reach those goals and work towards creating a solid foundation for yourself and generating your own income streams which will safeguard you if you lose your job again into the future. Put yourself in a position where work is a choice and not a chore.

Most people building a business online will continue in paid employment for the first year or so, using their salary as a way to fund marketing and advertising and without this it is very difficult to move forward. Think of this, it really doesn't matter what you do, because this is only a stepping stone for you Leslie.

Wash dishes, wait tables, clean floors, do anything that will bring you closer to your goal of creating real freedom. But, use some of your income to educate yourself in how to make money online. Whatever way you decide to move forward, move forward.

It's tough when you have no work.It can seem as though you have no options but if you take action and see yourself in the place you want to be then you will find that opportunities present themselves in front of you when you least expect them.

If you cannot find a job, find a skill that you have which others need and turn that skill into an income stream. Sell your knowledge, your experience, whatever you need to move forward.

what would you say to an 18 year old who is determined to be financially free?

Neil Ashworth profile image

Neil Ashworth Hub Author 21 months ago

Juan

I would say to follow your dreams and desires with determination and laser targeted focus.

If you believe you have what it takes to be successful creating your own financial freedom don't let anyone stand in your way; family or friends.

This is your journey and many people will try to deter you from travelling it - not because they do not want you to be successful but because THEY do not understand the direction you have chosen to take.

At 18 my life changed completely when I broke my back and my soccer career ended in an instant - dreams of fame and fortune went with it...

But I never gave up on the idea that life did not have to be lived following the 9 to 5 day job route and joining the rat race. There is simply more to life than that.

If you have chosen financial freedom Juan the next step to take is to make it happen.

Take your time to think about who you are right now; where you want to be in the next five years and how you want to get there.

Then make it happen.

Neil.

I wish I had read this article before i signed up for a Free trial with CarbonCopyPro. It was for $9.95 and I thought I couldn't lose since they had a 30 day guarantee. So I signed on. I also was informed I had a Free month to really check out their whole system, and that if I didn't join, then I wouldn't be charged the $49.75 also for their Student Membership. But,they lied and took the $49.75 out of my charge card right away,no,Free Trial or Free Month, as well as the $9.95 and now they won't answer any of my emails about a refund, and they have also made it so that I can't login to the website and it hasn't even been 30 days of the Free Trial yet!!! What a Rip-OFF!!!!!

I'm sorry to hear that.

I'd suggest contacting the company either by email or Skype if you have a skype account (which is Free).

I believe they will refund your credit card if you make it clear that you are unhappy with their system and do not wish to continue with your membership.

Best of luck

Hi Neil

I also quit Pro as I too had the same moral dilemma about selling to people who really shouldn't be getting involved in a top tier business.

I would say the training which is well worth the membership fee is very good at the beginning, perhaps a bit over priced & after a while you realise you can learn a lot of this stuff for free by searching online.

I also know there are a lot of good people with good intentions involved in the Pro community but I suspect these are the ones that are not doing very well selling the high priced products if they have the same issues as you & I Neil.

On a positive note ,I haven't given up on trying to find a way to earn money online as I still believe it is possible, but I'm now searching for a business or system that I feel comfortable with, selling to people knowing they are getting good value for money or quality information & they also know exactly what the costs are from the very start.

Any ideas? or am I just deluding myself there is an online opportunity that passes the honesty test.

Neil Ashworth profile image

Neil Ashworth Hub Author 9 months ago

Good to hear from you Robin.

My own belief is that there is no such thing as an "online opportunity" as you call it.

Real products, with real value are sold to real people (in my world at least) when and where a real connection exists - the internet is only a tool and nothing more that allows you and I to make the right connections - business is business and will always be done person to person. Use the internet as part of your marketing system - either to prospect or filter leads but then connect, pick up the phone or get together on Skype and see if the business is right for that person and if that person is right for the business.

If anyone tells you it is any different run a mile!

Robin Whiting profile image

Robin Whiting 9 months ago

Thanks for the advice Neil,I totally agree with you about the real products with real value, that's the way I've run my real printing business successfully for the last 17 years.

Probably what I was looking for when I first searched the internet was a way to find more freedom with a home based business & really just to replace my income from the printing business. The freedom was really more important to me than earning the big bucks. When I use the term 'Online Opportunity' it's only because I've been listening to too many so called 'Gurus' spouting nonsense on webinars in the last year....don't worry I'll soon be back to normal now I'm in the real world with real people.

Neil Ashworth Hub Author 9 months ago

Danny - my decision in the end. It's not all about money. Yes, money is important but you have to live with your decisions too and how you make money is (for me at least) even more important. A lot of programmes are pitched as "Top Tier" and yet sold to people who are desperate and have no funds to either get started or keep going. For me, advising this type of prospect to "invest" thousands of dollars into something that (very few) actually make any real money with was just not the right thing to do. You have to be able to look yourself in the mirror at night.

Paul 9 months ago

I was a member of Pro for over two years and made some decent money. It all went belly up when Google slapped everybody and it was a real struggle from there on in.

My opinion, keep your day job. You are just flogged training program after training program in this industry.

Neil Ashworth profile image

Neil Ashworth Hub Author 9 months ago

Paul - I agree in part. Yes, keep your day job, while building a residual income at the same time. There are some great business models and solid, reliable companies out there who do not survive by charging tens of thousands of dollars to "members" for thinly disguised money schemes. Don't give up your dream!

Hi Neil-Your article is most informative, down to earth and most importantly honest. I have been researching for a few years, which often leads to being sucked into so called "biz opp" trial offers. I am a 'baby boomer' married to my soul-mate for 42 dreamy years. We had, what we thought a nice retirement nest egg. Caring for my mom for eleven years, then our son was diagnosed with MS in 02, has definitely taken its' toll on our funds. I am willing to put in the hours. My husband and I have owned businesses, so we've 'been there done that' and participated in MLM health biz opps. Believe in the product;however we as many in our downline could not afford the monthly product cost in this economy. We don't have a long shelf life to grow another biz; however, we want our disabled son to be left better off, financially speaking. What do you suggest? Signed in for your PostCard offer, but no reply email yet so I can download your info:(

Hi Neil

Just read your article very interesting and how is your business different from CCP?

Does it work though as it not about money it's about paying for something that actual works and there are lot of scams at present -

I can pay double anything at present as l need to join something that works.

Neil Ashworth profile image

Tulac

First of all; I don't want you to hand me any of your money - I don't want you to hand it to anyone else either, not right now at least.

Whatever tools or systems you plug into or pick up are only that; tools.

They will not build your business for you - only you can do that and that means developing skills and this takes time. Most people never give themselves the time to develop the right skillset when starting a home business and then wonder why they keep failing - if you study to be a doctor, a nurse, an architect, a lawyer, you go to college and learn what you need to learn before you begin to practise those skills - running a business from home is no different.

We have the tools but you must invest the time to learn how to use them properly Tula - or you will continue to fail.
