Ready for the sales and marketing quiz? Okay, let's get started...

(Answer honestly even if it hurts!)

Are you selling more than one niche product?

If so, be certain that you are not professing to be an authority in each niche or it will come back to haunt you. If weight loss, dog training and piano lessons are something you have an interest in and decide to develop a website sales and marketing plan for be sure to come clean with your potential customers before they part with their hard earned cash or the next time you sell a piano online to an overweight, Husky lover you might just come unstuck!

Are you hiding the price of your product until your customers credit card is out?

A lot of scams online offer a free trial offer in exchange for your contact details and credit card details and then hit you with a monthly bill which is almost impossible to cancel. If this is the business model you have in place then walk away now because there is no longevity in treating your customers like fools and your days are numbered.

Are you offering a cast iron money back guarantee?

With so many promises of riches online, you need to offer your potential customers a guarantee that what they will get from you has your seal on it and if they have any problems whatsoever you will stand over it and return every cent of their hard earned dollar. Do this one thing and your sales figures will explode.

Are you offering any level of support of customer service after the sale has been made?

Make it easy for your customers to contact you for support or to cancel their account. This may seem a bad move but it isn't. Many people will buy a product or service and cancel because they do not have time to use it right now. They have every intention to return and purchase again if the process is easy to do so and if the product is worth their time and effort. Keep your customers and past customers happy and they'll return over and over again.

Do your customers return to buy from you again and again?

If all your sales are to new customers take a look at the steps above to see where you are falling short. A happy customer is one who will buy from you over and over again. If all your sales are to new customers chances are that you're not looking after the after sales.

Does an email from one of your customers make your stomach turn?

You are in the wrong marketplace and need to look at your whole business model. It may seem a drastic step but if your customer base drive you up the wall or leave a bad taste in your mouth chances are you do the same to them and that's a recipee for a short and bitterly disappointing relationship.

Making online sales the right way can sometimes feel like the long road to financial prosperity but in reality it's the only road. The internet is changing by the day and we, as customers, are becoming much more educated and informed about products and services. If you take short cuts with your sales and marketing strategy you will be left out in the cold but if you treat your customers the right way you could start to generate the type of sales that will change your life way beyond your expectations.
