For those seeking to build wealth and develop passive income, wealth building seminars can be extremely helpful.  Thanks in part to today’s technology, we need not communicate one-on-one with other business people, or even our clients, very often.  There is always a benefit to talking with other entrepreneurs, and to learning from those who have been successful.

Wealth building seminars offer the opportunity to learn from one another.  Usually run by successful business people who have great amounts of knowledge and ideas to share, they are a chance to leave one’s own “bubble” and get a sense of what others are doing.  They can provide a springboard for your own business by offering new ideas and tweaking your current activities.  The other effect you will glean from those around you is sheer energy.  There is no better balm for a sense of discouragement than to surround yourself, even for a day, with entrepreneurs who are excited about what they are doing and where they are headed.  You can walk out with a renewed sense of motivation toward reaching your goals.

Networking is a second benefit of attending wealth building seminars.  Often attendees are able to meet other business people who could possibly use one another’s services.  They may also be able to form a relationship in which they can market their products together.  For example, a professional advertising may meet an entrepreneur running a translation agency.  Together, they find that they can market their services to a new market of advertising clients who are trying to reach consumers who do not speak English, or who are in other countries.  By combining your services to offer clients a total solution to their needs, you will both increase your market share.

There is however, a downside (the bad and the ugly) to wealth building seminars.  As you purchase your ticket to the seminar, it may dawn on you that the person running the seminar is indeed running his own business, and his business knowledge is his product.  This, in and of itself, is not a problem.  However, some wealth building seminars actually offer very little substance, but are used as a vehicle by which the host can sell his product.  This product may be more wealth building seminars or it may be motivational books and tapes.  It is not uncommon for seminar hosts to sell supportive materials; the “ugly” part is when there is no substance to the seminar and attendees realize that they have bought a ticket to a sales presentation.

The final trap to avoid is a multi-level marketing meeting disguised as a wealth building seminar.  The speaker moves quickly away from the general business advice into speeches about how to succeed in their specific business.  It is difficult to see this coming because the agenda can often be very well disguised.  Before purchasing a ticket to any seminar or event, try to find as many details as possible, and get an idea of other business people who may be attending.
